End of the Year Writing Challenge

  1. What does a wish look like? It looks like 30 folds made a thousand times—a careful crease, a crinkle, a flat sheet of paper transformed into something new. A wish looks like a thousand cranes, hung with care from the roots of a tree, or the beams of an attic, the rungs of a ladder, the supports of a bridge. They soar, they float, they promise. A wish looks like a thousand transcendences, birds that fly beyond the square plane that had once confined them. A wish is determination and resolution to succeed. It’s cracked hands or soft hands or tired hands, manipulating paper with bone, sending a thousand hopes into the sky.
